dc.description.abstractIn this study, the aim is to show how video is used in language teaching and demonstrate how to exploit materials recorded from the television in order to be used as English language teaching materials for four basic skills i.e. listening, speaking, writing and reading. The first chapter forms the introduction part where the video is introduced and the problem and purpose of the study are stated and the scope of the study is determined. In chapter II, the literature related to teaching aids, video and the role of visual elements in language teaching, the potential of video as visual aid and the role of video in ELT classroom are discussed. In chapter III, commerially, produced ELT video materials are discussed. In chapter IV, criteria for the selection of authentic material is stated and the types of autentic materials and their characteristic features are mentioned. Furthermore, developing language skills with authentic video material is introduced.tr
